Today I'm going to speak about Christmas' eve!
The evening of the 24th of december is called "réveillon de Noël". French families get together and have a meal.
But what do the french people eat?
First, they have "l'apéritif", also called "l'apéro". If you want to know more about it you can read this message.
As a starter, there are three things that often come back: les huîtres (oyster), le saumon fumé (smoked salmon) and foie gras.
The most famous christmas meal is turkey with chestnuts. But in my family we're more used to eat fish (except this year...).
Sometimes between first and the main course we make "un trou normand" (litteraly Norman hole). It's some icecream in a small glass with alcohol. It helps to digest before eating what's next ^^.Uno dei piatti più famosi di Natale è latacchina colle caldallesse.
After the cheese, it's time to eat dessert: irreplaceable "bûche de noël". It's a cake "bûche" shaped (yule log), that can be made of icecream or cake. There are many different types: chocolate, chestnut, vanilla, fruits,...Dopo il formaggio, passiamo al dessert: l'inevitabile "bûche de noël".
Here it is! End of the meal!
The rest of the evening depends on if there are children who still believe in "le père-noël" or not.
If there are no children, we usually open the presents after the meal, after midnight.
If there are children, they're going to bed before midnight. And "le père-noël" put the presents under the Christmas tree. He enters the house by the chimney, during the night. The day after we open the presents.
